"Zakhotila gafa pana tay utratila Ivana" (several philological observations on a new book about Rusin phraseology)

This critical article examines Olga V. Lomakina and VaLerii M. Mokienko's Essays on Rusin Phraseology within the broader context of Slavic research on minor languages. The analysis begins by noting that the phraseological system of the Rusin language has not yet been systematically studied, and its historical and synchronic connections to related Languages remain Largely unidentified. The author emphasizes the importance of a linguo-cultural approach to this phraseology, positioning it as a unique ethno-marker of the Rusin Linguistic worldview. The article states that paroemias (traditional proverbs and sayings) reflect national and cultural specificity by preserving folk cultural elements and linguistic archaisms. Simultaneously, the Rusin ethno-linguistic landscape is shown to have incorporated international features and the symbolism of stable units from East Slavic languages. The author draws attention to the pressing need for a comprehensive lexicographic description of phraseological units across the broad ethno-geographical spectrum of Rusin dialects and micro-dialects. A significant role is ascribed to historical events, natural conditions, folklore motifs, everyday life, and ritual culture in shaping the phraseological system of microlanguages in general. Within this framework, the article introduces and substantiates the concept of ethnolinguistic markers, delineating their function within paroemic texts. The author concludes that further research into Rusin phraseology should be pursued from both diachronic (historical semantics) and synchronic (figurative meaning) perspectives, alongside a comparative-contrastive approach. The final conclusion underscores the axiological significance of the Rusin language's paremiological fund and asserts the critical importance of preserving this cultural memory of the word for future generations.
