Introduction: the many faces of Chukotka

The introductory article to the collection of published on the pages of this issue papers examines the main directions of modern socio-anthropological research in Chukotka and discusses on the issue the existing approaches' integration. The selection contains works by Russian and foreign authors, based on research conducted in different parts of the Chukotka Peninsula. Each of them shows specific local features, emphasizing the uniqueness of every of the studied settlements. The articles describe the processes taking place both in the economy and in the ritual sphere. The authors focus on dynamic, non-static perspective. The main task of this collection is to present the key processes that have changed the daily routine of local communities in Chukotka over the past 30 years.
