Between life and death: the concept of the border in the semantic kernel of the ‘living’ picture motif

In the paper an attempt is made to study a version of the plot motif ‘the living portrait’ in fiction on the basis of the story «Walter Eisenberg» by K.S. Aksakov and the short novel «The Oval Portrait» by E.A. Poe.
