The Tuvinians of China and Mongolia: current state of the folklore tradition

Based on the field data of the author, the paper analyzes the current existence of folk traditions in ethnic and local groups of the Tuvinians living in China and Mongolia. The specificity of the existence of Tuvan folklore genres in the migrant environment in the conditions of multilingualism is considered. The storytelling of the Chinese Tuvinians is characterized, the ritual side of epic work performance is analyzed and the prohibitions and regulations, which are typical of performance traditions, are shown. Unlike the Russian Tuva, the Tuva people of China preserve the archaic features in the non-fairy-tale prose genres: myths, legends, and historical tales. The song culture typical of Chinese and Mongolian Tuvinians is analyzed. The author comes to a conclusion that the foreign folklore of the Tuvinians demonstrates common folk tradition with some ethnic and local characteristics, showing the dialectal character of the traditional culture.
