Evenk literature: the specificity of genesis and existence, typical plots and motives

The Evenk literature has some typical features that are due to the conditions of its origin. Firstly, the works of the Evenk authors and Russian-speaking authors writing about the Evenks have much in common with feature stories; they are documentary and autobiographic. Secondly, the plots of the Evenk authors’ works are based on everyday life and routines. They mostly belong to the genre of short stories or cycles of short stories united by the same characters, place, and time. There are also short novels. They can be divided into several groups according to their plots. The important feature of the Evenk literature is the fact that most of the esthetically significant and famous works are written and published in Russian. First of all, the writings of the Evenk literature are of great importance and interest as documentary evidences of the national worldview, as an anthropological source for studying the traditional way of life of the aboriginal people, their folklore, domestic life, and culture.
