«Suddenly - is a discovery»: the category of accident in the creative system of late Lermontov and early Dostoevsky

The category of «accident» is investigated as representative of interference and convergence of late Lermontov and early Dostoevsky’s artistic worlds. The phenomenon of «accident» became a key phenomenon of the epoch and determined the appearance of several characteristics in texts of late Lermontov and early Dostoevsky. Moreover, it expressed the state of transitivity of the world in 1830-1840s. The problem of crucial «accident» in the creativity of both writers is considered as a philosophical problem of a central epoch which provoked the appearance of a special type of a hero and marked the beginning of self-consciousness processes and psychologization of events. As well, it is regarded as a problem which initiated the search for special narrative methods and ways of representing paradoxical, unexpected events. The explicit concept which demonstrates the category of «accident» in the late texts by Lermontov and early texts by Dostoevsky is the word «suddenly».
