The work by Gorbunova L. I., Petrova N. A. focuses on the theoretical problems of categorization and its cognitive origin. The results of the world categorization are stated to be represented in the lexis. This monograph regards a word that does not always reflect cognitively significant information as a linguistic unit. Polysemant and synonymous series are treated as linguistic categories, with extra-linguistic and linguistic basis specified. The perceptual and experimental signs of the nominated situations are determined. The conclusion is drawn about the necessity of systematizing classifiers. Also, emphasis is placed on the importance of distinguishing and describing the linguistic, cognitive, and extra-linguistic factors defining the role of the lexis not only for nomination processes but also for studying objects and situations, allowing the lexicographic description of various thesaurus dictionaries to be elaborated.
