From a blooming garden into the wilds of high politics: Vsevolod Krutovsky as a political publicist (based on materials from the publications in Sibirskie Zapiski and Sibirskaya Zhizn')
The article examines the political thought of a representative of the movement of late regionalists, Vsevolod Mikhailovich Krutovsky, through a narrative analysis of his journalism in regional periodicals. Written sources are analyzed - articles by the educator in the magazine Sibirskie Zapiski and the newspaper Sibirskaya Zhizn'in the period 1915-1917. The methodological basis of the work was the semiotic approach to historical knowledge. The toolkit is aimed at understanding the reality of the era, reproduced in interpretive assessments, theses, and judgments. Reconstruction of discourses in Krutovsky's political journalism from the perspective of the indicated methodological technique shows the ideals and values of the enlightener, enclosed in a sign-symbolic form. The events of the turning era certainly had a determining impact on the socio-political reflection of Krutovsky, a representative of the heterogeneous intelligentsia of Siberia. Therefore, in order to establish the boundaries of this influence, the paradigms of a "new intellectual and cultural history" may be in demand. The author emphasizes that Krutovsky revealed the democratic basis of the teachings of Siberian regionalists and convincingly sought to show the commitment of all representatives of this school of thought to Russian classical narodnichestvo and federalism. The author established that characterizing early regionalism as a system of moderate liberal-democratic ideas and principles, Krutovsky the publicist came to the conclusion that Siberian regionalism did not have a potential threat of secession. The article identifies two narratives of the then current political journalism of the Siberian educator. This is the theme of the democratic essence and federalist nature of the regionalists' program, based on the argumentation of the integrative genome of Siberian regionalism, which was alien to any manifestation of secession. Another direction in the content and general rhetoric of Krutovsky's ideological and journalistic heritage was the concretization of the value of cultural reformism, typical of the axiological core of all participants in the regionalist movement. Frequent reproduction of modes of Krutovsky's direct involvement into the cultural life of his native region made it possible to clearly demonstrate in the mass media important directions of cultural policy that were of fundamental importance for the spiritual prosperity of Siberia. It is also noted that the content of journalistic statements by Krutovsky testifies to his commitment to the corporate values of the regionalist movement - local patriotism, democracy, federalism, culturalism and education. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
