The choice of the political figures is connected with the last years' events, which arereflected in the modern informational space of Ukraine and Russia. These events are: gas war, numerous revolutions, and UkrainePresident election of 2010. This is an active period of push for power; and the mentioned above politicians took active part in it. Theauthor of the article analyses the approach to the understanding of the image as a certain information model, as a result of the createdimage, the structural elements (in the political discourse of mass media) are filled with special lexical meanings. The linguistic analysisof the choice of the following nominal units is presented in the article: the political reality subjects (estimative and imaginative);connotations (notional and ideological-political); figurative-expressive means (metaphor, irony, litotes, equivoque, etc.). The list of thementioned linguistic means, and lexical units in this paper is not full. The language model of a politician's image in mass media is builton the basis of linguistic data. Each of the analysed images contains positive, negative and neutral characteristics; it provides evidenceof complexity and ambiguousness of the politicians' images, which are made by mass media. Journalists tend to alive, humanizedimages, by means of strengthening many characteristics in the agenda frame. Undoubtedly, figurative-expressive means play a great rolein the politician's image formation by modern press. Moreover, we underline that they are also the means of manipulation through theestimate. The estimate influence is increased due to the functioning of utterances with the fight, oppositional semantics, it shows thetense character of pre-election battle [1; p. 139]. It is necessary to note that separately taken linguistic means do not have stronginfluence potential [7; p. 33]. Only being in complex - a combination of several expressive means, which help to achieve differentshades of meaning - it is possible to create the recognizable image. So, the image of a politician is represented by the most importantman's characteristics: visual, personal, social and symbolic [8; с.7]. The main factor in the updating of the image in mass media isagenda. It determines the necessity of language studying in the connection with the social-political realty of Ukraine. It is proved by theappearance of the following notions: timoshenkovtsy, Gas princess, regionaly, bandyukovich, pasechnik, and some others, which present particular interest for us.
