Contemporary multimedia system and problems of its optimization
Today it is necessary to develop clear criteria for the assessment of multimedia products of spiritual culture, because without them it is impossible to understand either the phenomenon of the multimedia culture, or the specifics and the typical features of systems that interact with the multimedia system. It is even more impossible to identify ways of their optimization and improvement, since creativity and art highlight the contradictions and paradoxes of time and organization of information systems. The principal importance for finding ways of optimization of multimedia products is the definition of assessment criteria, and through them, the determination of the quality of the multimedia system in general. Without clear assessment criteria neither theoretical nor practical development in any industry is possible. Multimedia works, whether it is a web-site, a local multimedia presentation, a movie or a television program, have their own specific assessment criteria and general assessment criteria relevant for the whole multimedia sphere. The general assessment criteria are: content, structure and navigation, script, multimedia language of communication, interface, functionality, visualization, sound, interactivity, ergonomics and overall impression. Clear, understandable criteria for assessment of multimedia projects are needed both in theoretical and practical developments in this area and for the educational process, because there is a possibility to objectify the difference between the optimal and suboptimal project. Such an assessment should be systematic, holistic and most objective by highlighting specific systemic factors to enable a person studying media design to find concrete ways to optimize the project. One should not also forget that the importance of the various criteria can change depending on the application (television, Internet), and depending on the thematic focus of media works (educational, cognitive, reference, social, recreational functions). Depending on the orientation and functions they have their own specific requirements to the structure, navigation, visual and verbal sequences, functionality, interactivity, etc.
