Techniques of formation of national and world glass-making in Tomsk museum collections
Museum objects made of glass are kept in Tomsk Regional Art Museum (TRAM) and Tomsk State Museum of History of the Region named after Shatilov (TSMHR). These collections differ in structure and orientation. Funds of TSMHR, according to the author's data based on inventory books comprise 783 items made of glass and cover the period from the 18th to the 21st centuries. The geographical composition of the collection in TSMHR is diverse and contains Russia, Western Europe, America. The main objects in the collection are represented by household glass from late 19th - first half of the 20th centuries. The museum's collection of works in TSMHR contains samples of glass, glass tubes, lamp-glass, lamp shades, pharmaceutical jars, package and laboratory ware, wine bottles, dishes for drinking, Christmas-tree decorations, tableware, perfume, dressing-table sets and sets for writing, as well as vases, plates and author's compositions. Items are different in forms and sizes, and also have various colors: achromatic, green, blue, brown, bright-green, lacteous, cobalt, manganese. The funds of glass in TRAM consist of 513 items, dated within the period of the 19th - early 21st centuries, made at western European and national glass-factories. The typological structure of the collection includes stamps, tableware, decorative vases, and author's mono- and multi-figure pieces of art. Author's art glass is one of the main directions of funds formation in TRAM. The collection of author's glass includes artworks of the 20th - early 21st centuries made by leading and minor European and national concerns. Innovation ways and techniques of work in glass are affected in them. The most extended form of author's products is decorative vases and plates. The set of works of Luchanovo glass-work factory (1908 - 2002) is the basis of the collection in TRAM. The collection includes serial products of the factory and author's works made by Luchanovo artists K.G. Glazova and F.Sh. Yakhin who worked at the factory in 1970 - 1990. In common, 1296 museum items are kept in TRAM and TSMHR demonstrating the establishment and development of the tradition in glass-work making. The collections represent 14 techniques: blowing (303 items), blow molding (272), hot-glass glass-making (169), free blowing (59), pressblow (25), sawing and turning (15), spinning (11), founding (8), extension (4), pressing (2), marking (2), planishing (1), 'soft blowing' (1). There is a unique item of foreign manufacturing in the collection. It is a shot ''Remer'', singular items of Emperor's glass-factory, serial products of national manufacturers, and, first of all, of Luchanovo glass-work factory, as well as author's glass of artists from Moscow, Leningrad, Dyatkovo, Vyshny Volochok, Saransk, Mytishchi, Tomsk. Products of national glass-making form the basis of the collections of TRAM and TSMHR and fully reflect the technique of glass-making, while foreign artworks are episodic.
