History of glass-making in Tomsk region in the 1920s
History of glass-making in Tomsk region is not examined and there are only a few publications about this period. There is a short note is written in the newspaper Golos Sibiri (The Voice of Siberia) about an unknown glass-making factory and its outputs. The Economic Guide of Tomsk Province in 1920-1921 describes the work of Valentinovo and Luchanovo glass-making factories. In the Economic and Statistics Review of Tomsk District in tables of factories two unknown private factories are noticed. The Economic Review of Tomsk District for 1924-1927 tells about Luchanovo, Timerchensko-Kaltay occurrences of quartz sand in Tomsk region and about the location of the Krasnoye Utro (Red Morning) and Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) factories. In publications by N.M. Dmitrienko information about glass-making is given in the context of regional history and literally by only a few lines. In the section ''We will build our new world!'' from a multi-author research Tomsk Oblast. Historical Sketches the creation of Tomsk Chemical Union is described which also included Valentinovo glass-making factory no. 2, The book Day by Day, Year by year: A Chronicle of Tomsk Life in 17th - 20th centuries tells that the glass-making factory in Predtechensk was renamed into the Krasnoye Utro. There are only episodic lines about the history of glass-making factories in the examined period in the named researches; this article is the first attempt to recreate the history of glass-making in the 1920s in Tomsk region. Therefore, it has been found out that during the first years of the Soviet regime glass-making factories were being opened and closed, joined to industrial unions, renamed, and nevertheless they worked in spite of difficulties. It was established that in the 1920s Tomsk region had five or fewer glass-making factories at different time. There were small, medium and large factories. The work of most of them was unstable. Factories made products in spite of the lack of resources, low sales and bad technical equipment. It can also be said that Tomsk factories employed specialists from other regions, which characterizes Tomsk region as prosperous for glass-making. At factories there was the liquidation of illiteracy at the same time with production. And yet, workers still had farm households and new Soviet holidays have not become habitual for them. Generally, it can be said that glass-making in Tomsk region in the 1920s had been preserved and was being developed towards concentration, yet it had some difficulties.
