Complex epithet in the lyrics by M. Tsvetaeva: linguistics of the sense

Epithet is the central concept in the poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva, as the poet says in her letters and diaries. For this reason, the epithet in her work is understood as a linguo-aesthetic dominant of creativity - it is not only the language of her works, but also her aesthetic orientation, artistic and life rule. M. Tsvetaeva's description of the reality is emotional, always personal and multifaceted: by semantic varying the words, by repeating a single attribute, by an extended epithet and its preposition or postposition use or shifting its semantic and syntactic relations. In modern study of epithets examine much attention is given to the analysis of the structure of epithets: ways to include the attribute into the poetic discourse are described, which suggests the structural and syntactic typology of epithets; attempts to fully describe the types of complex and compound adjectives in the epithets of one writer are made: types of epithets productive for an idiostyle are defined. M. Tsvetaeva created the following types of complex epithets: 1) complex epithets written solidly that express subordination relationship between attributes in the epithet phrase; 2) complex epithets written with a hyphen that express coordination between attributes; 3) doublet epithets -epithets written with a hyphen that include a repeating root element to enhance the feature. The first type (42 epithet phrases) is an epithet phrase containing an attribute that expresses a feature with subordinate relations in its semantic structure. Solid spelling of such epithets shows close connection of the features that form a multi-root lexeme. The second type is a combination of the two attributes in the epithet phrase that are somehow juxtaposed to each other expressing their coordinative relations. The third type is epithets written with a hyphen that include a repeating root element to enhance the feature (2 epithet phrases). This type is a doublet use of the same attribute with the same substantive for emphatic purposes. This group is not productive, but interesting in terms of emotional evaluation expression. Unusual combinations of adjectives give particular emotion to the texts of M. Tsvetaeva. The use of adjectives to describe the spiritual, inner world of lyrical heroine of M. Tsvetaeva proves the importance of selecting and forming the epithet as a word in general. This is how M. Tsvetaeva understands the epithet.
