On classifying the theories of creativity

In the introduction part of the article the author gives a proof of the topicality of the issue, defines the goal and formulates the problem of the research. Problems of creative activity have been studied in detail by Western scientists for a long time. The concept of creativity is the subject of researches of psychologists, philosophers, sociologists, philologists, economists, teachers. However, in all their diversity of approaches to the study of creativity currently, there is no universal classification which allows to systematize the experience gained in this area. In the basic part of the work the author presents the general classification of the main foreign theories of creativity. The basic grounds of creativity research theories classification include a detailed typology of approaches and definitions of creativity. There are traditional and current theories of creativity. The content theories of creativity research are allocated on the basis of disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas of study and their main research directions. These are approaches which focus on human abilities, on factors influencing the development of creativity, and theories aimed at the specifics of the creative product as a result. The procedural theories of creativity research concentrate on the analysis of the stages of creativity as a process. Depending on the direction of creativity research several basic criteria of the considered concepts and approaches were identified. Firstly, it is the presence of various research subjects: conditions, stages of the process (the creative process), the properties of the product or service (the creative product), personality traits, person's abilities (creative people). Secondly, it is the variety of methods and techniques for measuring creativity. Thirdly, it is the variety of definitions of the term "creativity". Foreign researchers have identified several classes based on a number of features. In the conclusion of the article the author identifies a number of features in the study of creativity abroad. The content of creativity is generated and filled depending on the values that dominate in the society. Great attention is paid to the possibility of development of the given quality of a modern person in a fast- changing society, as creativity is a necessary phenomenon of successful development.
