Soviet radio communication in X-XI five-year plans
Development of the transmission network broadcasting in the USSR went through several stages. At each stage the problem was solved comprehensively taking into account the possibilities of the domestic industry, the level of telecommunications development and electrification of the country as well as other objective conditions. The existing transmission network by the beginning of the 1980s provided broadcasting coverage of the entire territory of the USSR. The number of receivers and wired radio broadcasting exceeded 80 million units each. This meant that virtually every family living in the service area had a radio, a wire-broadcasting unit. In the 1970s significant success was achieved in the development of radio transmission equipment. Transmitter power was increased and its operating range was expanded. In addition, the efficiency of management by increasing the degree of automation and the use of computer devices directly into the transmitter was raised. The quality of information signals transmission, the parameters of signals emitted by radio transmitting stations in terms of electromagnetic compatibility of different tools and systems consistently improved. Considerable progress was also observed in the circuit design and construction solutions (e.g., the use of solid-state devices), so the consumption of materials and labor on their manufacture were significantly reduced. The constantly increasing requirements to all parameters of radio systems and the quality of household receivers caused intensive qualitative development of radio receiving equipment - the historically first branch of Radio Engineering. Development trends, scientific and technical problems in this area were extremely varied, since in different frequency bands and different radio systems there were significantly different types of modulation used, the component, the physical nature and the level of interference, radio conditions, and the basic units of construction equipment. In the development of the radio receiving equipment in 1975-1985, there preserved directions established for many years. This, above all, is the development of increasingly high ranges, increased sensitivity and noise immunity. During the X-XI Five-Year Plan, the country established a powerful technical base of wire and radio broadcasting, including the production of the necessary equipment, implemented a number of original cost-effective solutions, tailored services to the population of the USSR with different kinds of information.
