A comparative research of social intelligence and personal features of students of capital and regional higher schools

Results of an empirical research devoted the features of social intelligence of first-year students trained in capital and regional higher schools are presented in the article. Research objective is the study (and comparison) of the level of development of social intelligence (SI) and its interrelation with individual and psychological characteristics of young men and women of the first year, students of capital and regional higher schools. Research hypotheses are: 1) differences in the structure of correlation connections of social intelligence with personal features will be distinctly shown in the two selected student groups; 2) in the capital the social intelligence of first-year students will be higher than that of Tomsk higher school representatives. For checking the hypotheses a research was organized and conducted. It involved first-year students from different faculties of Tomsk and Moscow higher schools. The features of social intelligence were defined basing on the Questionnaire of Assessment of a Choice in a Conflict Situation (by S.V. Shcherba-kov and Z.M. Amineva). During the research the hypothesis that students of capital higher schools have a higher level of social intelligence than of the regional one was not confirmed. SI level of both groups is approximately identical; it has an average value of the rate in comparison with other respondents. It was revealed that higher SI characteristic of students of both Moscow and Tomsk higher schools is accompanied by reflection, belief in human kindness, self-confidence, developed ability to self-control and desire to act according to their own beliefs. The hypothesis that differences in the structure of correlation connections of social intelligence with personal features will be distinctly shown in the two selected student groups was confirmed. The features of students of Tomsk and Moscow higher schools were also revealed and described in detail. During the research the relationship was analyzed between SI and dedication, tendency to planning, ability to reflect, aspiration to self-determination, life satisfaction, self-relation and attitudes towards the world and other people. The research of social intelligence has vast practical importance. First of all, the diagnostics of the degree of social intelligence development has special importance in the general research of the personal identity. Secondly, thorough elaboration of the researched phenomenon is very important for diagnostics of difficulties in manifestation and formation of social intelligence and the following correction of difficulties in social issues.
