Content-analysis of interdependence between cultural-environmental ideological factors and the definition of “extremism” in the information field of Runet
The paper analyzes the notion “extremism” and its connection with different ideologemes used in the Russian Internet segment (Runet). This project is part of the study aimed at the analysis of contemporary forms of youth extremist behavior in connection with cultural and environment factors for further psychological measures and prevention of extremism among young people and their selfcomprehension. Methodology. The research is based on Experimental Linguistics. For the content analysis we used Multi language Ngram Viewer operating with the help of Google Books that enabled us to reveal and analyze social, psychological and cultural content trends which have been used in the Google e-books in the last 200 years (the Russian content is codeindexed till 2008). Frequency of the term “extremism” used by the young people was compared to the sense-related notions “terrorism”, “radicalism”, “opposition”, “disorderly conduct” etc. The content analysis of the most frequent words of the codeinexed Russian segment of the Internet showed relevance of the term “extremism” to other ideologemes. The statistical data of the relevance of the term “extremism” to other ideologemes were visualized for better perception of the system qualities of the info field. The visualization method is similar to the so called ‘word cloud’, but represented in the laminated round-headed form. The layer which is closer to the center of the figure means a bigger amount of websites where the term “extremism” is used in one context with some ideologeme. Results. The ideological part of the Runet info field comprises ideologemes and counterideologemes formed as collision of Western virtues of Renaissance and some marginal subcultures reflecting enlightenment of ethnic identity, religious fundamentalism, nationalism, pan-ideological tendencies; religious, ideological, language and cultural confrontations; values used worldwide with imposition of American standards of behavior, lifestyle, consumerism, entertainment. The results show the dynamics, structure and expansion perspectives of the word “extremism” in the contemporary common perception. The methods used are original and could be applied to prevent youth extremism, to eliminate behavior deviations in the youth environment and to be a tool for priority goals planning. The research is supported by the Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation, Project 14-06-18025 “Investigation of contemporary forms of youth extremist behavior in connection with cultural and environment factors”
