Structural and semantic features of the construction na samom dele in the scientific papers of M.M. Bakhtin

In monolingual and special dictionaries authors identify two functional types of construction NA SAMOM DELE (actually): an adverb or an introductory phrase. Its semantics is described by reference to the construction V SAMOM DELE. However, in special studies (aimed at understanding the discursive units, for example, in the Guide to the Discursive Words of the Russian Language ed. by A.N. Baranov) we found information in favor of antonymy of these units. We had an opportunity to consider three structural positions of NA SAMOM DELE studying the scientific papers of M.M. Bakhtin. The features of the positions are the following: 1. NA SAMOM DELE has all the features of a text clip in the absolute beginning of the paragraph: intonation isolation, initial position, participation in communication organization between paragraphs. In this case, the text clip connects the argument to the previous paragraph thesis. Its feature is that this argument is a refutation. 2. On the border of the predicate parts the construction NA SAMOM DELE is a modifier at the conjunction. The construction is used with the conjunctions IBO and NO. It is not proven that in this context that the construction function belongs to the conjunction or NA SAMOM DELE only, both units create an indivisible conjunction combination. The semantics of the construction NO NA SAMOM DELE is a refuting opposition, with the conjunction IBO the construction introduces a refuting argument. 3. Inside the predicative unit the construction NA SAMOM DELE can be an adverb or a particle. As an adverb, it is not involved in the organization of communication itself, being a necessary component of meaningful sentences. The semantics of this construction in the function of the adverb is synonymous to V DEYSTVITEL'NOSTI, V SAMOM DELE (in reality), pointing at the correspondence of a fact to reality. As a particle, it is used to emphasize a fact that is close to reality. In conclusion, we think that a completed description of the construction in dictionaries will enrich the studies of Russian functional words, and will allow their more accurate use in different contexts.
