Effects of the Olympic education on the self-esteem of children in children's educational and health camps
The problem of formation of self-awareness and self-identity is one of the most important and urgent. Self-assessment is the central link of any self-regulation which determines the direction and levels of activity of the person, their relationship with the world, with people, with oneself. Psychological and pedagogical literature allocates the features of formation of self-esteem in children of secondary school age. Students are generally aware of their true strengths and weaknesses, taking into account others' attitude to them. It is of great importance for the future development of the individual, for conscious assimilation of ethics, for following positive examples. Self-esteem is involved in all the mechanisms of human adaptation to life conditions. In addition, self-esteem is involved in the active restructuring of one's own life and the environmental conditions; it is an "internal engine" of a person. Researchers identify the following characteristics of self-esteem results: in the result of self-esteem people learn whether their performance is superior to a standard, equal to it or does not reach it. It should be noted that high self-esteem results in the person's inclination to overestimate the opportunities, unreachable, unreal goal setting, it can lead to an underestimated self-esteem. Normal self-esteem is important, for secondary school children with overestimated or underestimated self-esteem can have difficulties in making contacts with contemporaries; it often happens that the collective does not accept such children. In our country, physical education and sports are considered as one of the most important means of educating a person harmoniously combining spiritual wealth, moral purity and physical perfection. In this regard, we have developed the Olympic Education program and put it into the practice of schools of the city of Tomsk and Tomsk Oblast. The schools proved its effectiveness in shaping the students' moral culture by means of Olympism. Olympic education of students was in the form of Olympic lessons. One of the main tasks of the Olympic classes is developing a standard self-esteem in children. To evaluate the effectiveness of the Olympic classes in a camp, a study was conducted at the beginning and end of the season aimed at the formation of secondary school children's self-esteem. To identify the level of self-esteem before and after the experiment the questionnaire of G.N Kazantseva was used. Children in the experimental group, which practised Olympic education became more hopeful for success in their activities, their self-esteem increased; the children learned to compromise, became more loyal to their failures, learned to overcome various obstacles in fulfilling orders or doing things and ceased to be afraid of difficulties.
