Modal words as assumption markers in dialect speech
To date, studies devoted to semantics and functioning of the parenthetical modal words and constructions are made mainly on the material of the literary language. This article tells about parenthetical modal words that indicate hypothetical character and are used in dialect speech; the author is trying to establish the connection between the theme, temporal correlation of statements and selecting an assumption marker. The aim of the article is to group the analyzed assumption markers by the degree of certainty of the speaker in the truth of his / her conclusions. Hypothetical character is the basis of the speech genre of assumption which is a complex, informative and focused on the interlocutor. It functions in oral speech, and can be spontaneous or provoked. Assumption is implemented in situations of natural everyday communication, its temporal relatedness with the events can be different. The sign of assumption indication is the appearance e of parenthetic and modal words and constructions in the structure of the utterance. In the dialect communication there is a wide variety of parenthetical modal words that possess hypothetical semantics. The most common of these are: nav-erno /navernoe, podi, li chto li /li che li /li kak li /li kogo. Situations and events that are subject to reflection, can be described from the point of: 1) their temporal correlation: long past events; events, that the speaker witnessed or is witnessing at the moment of speech; 2) their subject: the speaker predicts the possible course of events; the speaker does not have any information about the speech subject; the speaker tries to reconstruct the cause-effect relations between events and understands the name of an object or phenomenon. The analysis of dictionary meanings of parenthetical modal words has shown that all of the available dictionaries view these words as synonyms, interpreted through one another without taking into account semantic and functional peculiarities. The research has shown that the selection of assumption markers among modal words indicates that these words have no crossing zones when talking about information obtained as a result of perceptual perception, or information obtained by logical inference and generalization. Inside the assumption speech genre (that is regularly realized in the speech of dialect speakers and has a number of its own formal characteristics, some of which are studied above), it is possible to single out the following subgenres: prediction, assumption or guess, reconstructing cause-effect relations, metalanguage activity.
