Diminutives in the texts of V.M. Shukshin (functional actualization of the system-language possibilities)

One of the multiple ways of speech excessive expressiveness creation is the derivational system. Numerous diminutive-hypocoristic suffixes that give a wide range of pragmatically rich meanings (the center of which is subjective evaluation) to derivative nouns is typical for the suffixation system of the Russian language. The most important things for further analysis are the following characteristics of diminutive derivation semantic potential: syncretism of meanings, dependence of implementation of meaning from intraword and external contexts. The author determines the thematic groups of diminutives and variants of text actualization of their semantics. Focus on the expression of evaluation and emotional intension determine the functional orientation of the derivational resource of the Russian language on formation of lexical means of the colloquial style. The main peculiarity of the prose works of V.M. Shukshin is folk-colloquial language. The author of the article takes into consideration one component of V.M. Shukshin's idiostyle: active use of emotionally and expressively colored words represented by forms with diminutive suffixes. The task is to determine the spectrum of emotionally evaluative meanings expressed by diminutives in Shukshin's stories. Analysis of V.M. Shuk-shin's idiostyle shows that his texts contain both general tendencies, typical for functioning of the diminutives in the Russian derivational system, and original ones, determined by Shukshin's preferences and orientation on creation of the specific artistic world. Having followed the semantic and functional variation of diminutive derivatives with a concrete objective meaning in the texts of V.M. Shukshin, the author points out that diminutive meaning proper is a rare occurrence for diminutives. A spectrum of other emotional connotations of positive or negative character is added to the hypocoristic meaning of the diminutives. Analysis of the meanings of diminutives in V.M. Shukshin's texts shows idiosyncrasy of their semantic potential: tendency of diminutive derivatives to primarily express the pragmatic sense, which is a reflection of general trends. The basic feature of the writer's stories is a recreation of real colloquial speech. The originality of V.M. Shukshin's idiostyle consists in the broad use of diminutive derivatives that have not only colloquial, but also rusticated style markedness.
