Aleksandr Pushkin's novel Eugene Onegin in Italian reception: on stating the problem
The relevance of this research is determined by the growing interest of the modern humanities to the problems of intercultural communication, international literary connections and the role of translations in these connections. It is necessary to expand the horizons of the national literary process and to go to the "alien" text; this process is a regular stage in every literature history, so self-determination of national literature and understanding of its own essence occurs in the process of the dialogical interaction. More and more new studies appear today. They deal with the issue of the literary interaction and reception of different writers' works. The Italian reception of Aleksandr Pushkin's oeuvre and especially the receptive history of Eugene Onegin was studied less than the reception in other West European literary traditions, particularly in English, French and German. The issue of this article is the reception of Aleksandr Pushkin's novel Eugene Onegin in Italian literature in the 19th - 21st centuries and the reconstruction of the novel's receptive history in two aspects: translational and literary-critical. There are nine complete translations of the novel Eugene One-gin in Italy which were made from 1856 till 2006. In this article, the author gives preliminary descriptions of some of these translations and sets the problem of translating the "novel in verse" as well as the adaptation possibilities for such a novel while preserving its poetic features. To answer this question, the author addresses to the integrated analysis of the translations. It is necessary to classify all the translations into prose and poetic and define various methods of their comparison in the process of linguostylistic and literary analysis. This analysis of the chosen translations allows finding out the personal touch of the writers' perception and their interpretation of the novel's artistic diversity. There is a need to analyze the theoretical and practical aspects of the problem of the Theory of Translation (such as translation of realias, phraseologisms, proper names, alien words, cases of literary deviation, puns, etc.) and investigate the specificity of untranslatable elementss using translations of the novel. Also, to recreate the perception of Pushkin's novel fully, interpretation and evaluation of the novel in the Italian literary studies should also be considered.
