British centers for the study of contemporary ethnic relations

The culturally, ethnically and religiously heterogeneous society has been formed in the UK since the middle of the 20th century. In these circumstances, the government circles have been developing certain activities to manage the ethnic and cultural diversity. Organizations have been established under the auspices of the government designed to monitor the implementation of the policy of the British government, as well as to conduct research of intercultural and inter-ethnic relations within the British society. In addition, there is a need to build analytical models to quickly assess the real state of affairs, to analyze the possible consequences of management decisions, to predict possible developments. Associations of politicians, experts, scientists come together in public and expert discussions and scientific and academic study. The attention of these associations is focused on the study of contemporary ethnic processes. Currently, the country has a large number of such organizations which differ both in terms of their organization and purposes of activities, working methods, participants. The first stage of the work with the disparate material in the process of its scientific understanding is its ordering and alignment in a logically sound system, classifying elements into groups on the basis of characteristic features for their further characteristics and typology. The purpose of this article is to characterize the existing British research and analysis organization working with the problems of inter-ethnic relations and to conduct an initial typology of these organizations on the basis of the following criteria: goals, location, funding, scope and methods of work. The author used the official websites of the analyzed organizations in the process of work. Four types of organizations were revealed for the analysis: 1) governmental committees stationed in the capital with offices in major cities in the UK; 2) analytical non-governmental centers, as a rule, located in the capital; 3) research and information editions and media of transnational and national level; 4) regional research centers at universities. The practical significance of this work is to provide opportunities to evaluate the experience and results of these organizations, to compare their performance objectives, approaches and methodology of work.
