Individualization of tactics in the production of interrogation: maintaining psychological contact

Interrogation is a complex investigative action, as the result of interrogation is largely dependent on the ability of the investigator to win the interrogated and, accordingly, obtain the necessary information. The problem of establishing psychological contact has been of interest to forensic scientists until now. The difficulty of making contact during the preliminary investigation, communication under other circumstances is complicated by the fact that examination is treated as a kind of a duel with the investigator which the interrogated hopes to win in hope to either completely withdraw from the intended criminal responsibility, or in some way mitigate their responsibility. The investigator also often tries to achieve the highest possible result at the initial interrogation, which is not always possible and does not logically follow from the current investigation situation. Psychological contact is an interaction between the investigator and the person giving testimony, the purpose of which is to provide information the investigator is interested in that can be obtained from the analysis of both speech and facial expressions, gestures. Establishing psychological contact is a long process, preparation for which begins in the preliminary stages of investigative communicative actions with the definition of personal characteristics of the person giving testimony. For the most efficient use of tactics in the production of interrogation and establishment of psychological contact, in particular, an individual approach is required, that is, the tactics have to be adjusted depending on personal qualities, psychological type of the interrogated. This specification will lead to the improvement of interrogation methods, enhance tactical exposure of the investigator on the interrogated person and, therefore, increase the likelihood that the chosen tactic will work. Another way to establish psychological contact in the interrogation is the typological approach, according to which the investigator may choose a tactic topic for conversation for each of the personality types with a view to establish contact with the interrogated.
