The cultural characteristics of a Russian holiday-maker. Regional tourism of Russia

This article describes the main characteristics of a representative of the Russian regions as a holiday-maker, namely: interest in a deserted nature-based pagan archetype of space, and not in artificially created urban environment ecological ethics. The modern development of tourism in the Russian regions depends on the formation of ecological culture in the minds of Russians, but well-established practices and traditions of recreation require intervention at the state level. A good example to achieve this goal, with the right use of modern information resources, can be a centuries-old experience of Russians influenced by shamanism and paganism. The purpose of this article is to assess the state of Russian tourism and to identify the practices of the modern travel subject, that is a holiday-maker of Russian regions. The scope of this study covers the Russian regions, but excludes practices of inhabitants of Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Through the observation method, as well as through a comprehensive consideration of the processes occurring in the culture of the Russian regions, it was possible to identify the characteristics of the contemporary holiday-maker. Namely, the vastness, the spaciousness and originality of Russian nature landscapes currently attract much attention of neonomads for the cultivation of the modern space. Neonomads are the direct consequence of globalization and informational processes that make wild places more accessible for tourism. Due to the lack of traditions of ecological ethics, the behavior of Russian "holiday-makers" is usually attributed to "anti-cultural" manifestations, with the exception of regions where Buddhism and shamanism are spread, a consequence of their religious grounds is reverent attitude to nature and the environment. Rest in reserved places has a recreational function, and it is transformed from active forms into passive ones. The ritual of the rest on the landscape for recreational purposes is based on the archetype of the Russian feeling of wide open space and expanse, of the feeling of the Russian environment. This archetype is ambivalent: on the one hand, it has pagan roots, on the other hand, it has a superimposed Orthodox context. On the basis of the observations made, the conclusions of this study are that the formation of environmental ethics in the minds of modern holiday-makers of the Russian regions is necessary, but it can be feasible only at the state level. And the mark of the anti-culture of the Russian holiday-maker is based on old practices accepted by the tradition of the Russian expanse. Information processes and globalization have a direct impact on the transformation of tourism in the Russian regions. Despite the inaccessibility of many of the protected places, at the same time these processes of modification, as a result, involve as many "wild" areas as can be involved in tourism. However the incompetence in the management and organization of touristic recreation remains the problem of insufficient environmental ethics of an average Russian holiday-maker.
