Psychological features of behavior in conflict situations in monoethnic and interethnic Russian and Tatar families
The article studies the relationships between mono- and interethnic families of the Tatars and the Russians. The behavior pattern of married couples in conflict situations is of particular interest. Such behavior strategies during conflicts, suggested by A.Thomas, as confrontation, collaboration, compromise, avoidance and concession are brought to attention. In the empiric study conducted with a representative average, significant differences between conflict behavior strategies of the Russian, Tatar and mixed families are shown. The investigation of the families was conducted in Naberezhny Chelny in 2014. Mono- and interethnic Russian and Tatar married couples took part in the study. There were 120 families: 60 interethnic and 60 monoethnic couples. Considering the test results of men in the monoethnic Tatar couples, it can be noted that the strategy of avoidance has scored maximal points. This type of a strategy is a device of postponing the conflict denouement and preserving the conflict situation as it is. The confrontation tactics scored minimal points. Taking into account the results of Tatar women, there is a fact that draws attention: the collaboration tactics has scored maximal points, it is when situation participants find an alternative way out of it. The minimal indicators of cooperation in conflict situations between couples are observed in the confrontation tactics. According to the rated indicators, it can be noted that in monoethnic Russian families no statistically significant difference between the results of men and women is revealed. Though, the average value analysis has shown that men and women scored maximal points in the tactics of compromise. Using the compromise tactics both sides meet each other halfway in order to satisfy the other in their interests, mostly in more important ones. Minimal values of the confrontation strategy were obtained from Russian couples which show that both rivalry and discrimination of a partner are unacceptable in a close relationship. As a result of the obtained data analysis, it was statistically revealed that the ethnic behavior pattern, indeed, impacts family relationships in Russian, Tatar and mixed families. In conflict situations Tatar men opt for the confrontation tactics more often than their life partners. In monoethnic Russian families there is the compromise strategy as a prevailing behavior in conflict situations. In mixed families Russian men prefer to avoid a conflict and Russian women reach their goals using their volitional powers, i.e. the confrontation tactics. It is suggested to take into consideration ethnopsychological behavior patterns which will allow reducing conflict situations in married couples.
