On the archive of scientist and public figure A.V. Adrianov (1854-1920) in Tomsk State University
The publication refers to the range of papers on sources connected with the biography and work of Alexander Vasil'evich Adri-anov (1854-1920). An outstanding researcher of the history and culture of North and Central Asia, social activist and educator, editor of the Sibirskaya Gazeta [Siberian Newspaper] and the Sibirskaya Zhizn' [Siberian Life] was killed by the verdict of the Bolsheviks. After the arrest of A.V. Adrianov in Tomsk, where the scientist and his family had lived more than 24 years, a significant part of his personal (home) archive was confiscated and the research library was plundered. In the 1920s-1950s, in Tomsk, the relatives of A.V. Adrianov gradually united the saved documents associated with him. In the 1950s, Alexander Adrianov (A.V. Adrianov's eldest son) began processing these collected works and did their first systematization. In 1961, the granddaughter of A.V. Adrianov transported the archive to Barnaul where part of the material she had been taken was not returned. In 1975, she gave the remaining documents for storing to the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography of Siberia of Tomsk State University where they were registered as The Archive of A.V. Adrianov (No. 868). Many documents were still in poor condition when they came to the university. In 1979, the Museum made a preliminary list of the materials according to 26 inventories. The collection of the 19th - mid-20th centuries includes more than 2,200 different documents (author's texts, memories, material on archeology and ethnography, writing, etc.). The Archive of A.V. Adrianov is unique, but rarely used source for the study of various events of Russian history, especially history of Siberia, as well as for research on archeology and ethnography. A detailed list of the collection based on the scrupulous study of the source of each document including the establishment of its authorship and date has not been compiled yet. Many of the archive documents are in urgent need of conservation and restoration.
