Perceptual semantics in G.I. Gazdanov's novel A Flight
The language of G.I. Gazdanov's novels has not been studied yet in linguistic terms. The relevance of the article is due to its text-centric orientation, attention to the interaction between the lexical-semantic and lexical-grammatical levels in the formation of the structural-semantic integrity, the coherence of the artistic text. The article discusses the features of using textual paradigms correlated with the actualization of a reproductive register which is a key to the recognition of lexical perception (auditory, visual, tactile and olfactory). Ibe research is based on the novel A Flight by G.I. Gazdanov, in which lexically expressed perceptions are narratively and perceptionally correlated and relate to the descriptions of the psychological states of the characters. Thus, the musical images are linked with memories, regrets about past mistakes, being a harbinger of upcoming events, the auditory musical perception helps the heroes to hear their souls. These perceptual values usually are object-oriented and the use of metaphors is implicit. Description of the acoustic characteristics of the voices allows the reader to understand the relationship between the characters. Pictures of nature, weather manifestations are combined with the inner feelings, the state of the characters. Auditory, visual, tactile, thermal and olfactory experiences, replacing and complementing each other, play retrospective and prospective roles in the fate of the characters of the novel. The novelty of this article is in highlighting the image of the sequence or the combination of several perceptions involving metaphors, synesthetic images specific for the language of the novel. Subjective and object-oriented perception is also considered. These images are made using textual paradigms (contextual synonyms, associates, lexical and root repetition) and lexical-grammatical (abstract nouns, verbs of sound and motion) paradigms participating in the implementation of the reproductive textual register. Thus, this work supports the problem of studying the interrelation between lexical and grammar semantics in the structural-semantic organization of an artistic work, and also the problem of describing the specifics of the language personality of the writer and of his individual style. The study of perceptual semantics in G.I. Gazdanov's A Flight allows to increase the number of opportunities in considering the participation of semantic and formal-semantic paradigms in text formation and provides a deeper reading of the work; identifies the specifics of the author's individual style. The prospect of further research is the analysis of means and ways of expressing perception in different situations of the characters' state in other novels by G.I. Gazdanov. The aim of further research is a more objective understanding of the features of using textual paradigms in the expression of perceptual semantics in the works of the writer.
