I.I. Dolgikh, the first leader of the Southern Kuzbass Corrective Labour Camp of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs

The article examines the biography of the first leader of the Southern Kuzbass Corrective Labour Camp of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ivan Ivanovich Dolgikh. He worked in this camp from 1947 to 1950. The camp was located in the south of Kemerovo Oblast in the Gornaya Shoria district. This camp was founded in 1947. The main production task of the Southern Kuzbass Corrective Labour Camp was provision and transportation of wood. ^e prisoners worked there. The history of the camp has been little studied by researchers. Ivan Ivanovich Dolgikh organised the production activity of the new camp. He organised training of skilled workers from prisoners. The removal of timber from the harvesting sites became year-round. He introduced modern technical means of production. As a result, the camp began to regularly supply timber for the coal mines of Kuzbass. This was especially important for the restoration of the economy of Kuzbass in the postwar period. But, unfortunately, many organizational and production problems were not solved. These were questions about the life of prisoners, the fulfillment of production plans and thefts. There is scattered information about Ivan Ivanovich Dolgikh. The purpose of the study is to provide reliable information about this person and to evaluate his activity as the head of the Southern Kuzbass Corrective Labour Camp. The article contains a brief description of his professional activities in other corrective labour camps in the USSR. In addition, his military service in the army, feats and rewards are described. The article tells about his famous feat of destroying the gang of A.P. Kaigorodov, which was operating in the Altai region in the 1920s. For this feat he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. Ivan Ivanovich Dolgikh was a brave commander and a competent leader. The author wrote his biography on the basis of archival documents. This is a characteristic, a personal leaflet, a service card and other official documents. The author compares these biography facts with the data of other researchers. Erroneous information was found in the articles of some authors. For example, some authors have confused biographical information about Ivan Ivanovich Dolgikh with data about another person, Ivan Ilyich Dolgikh, who was also an employee of the NKVD (People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs) in the 1930s-1950s.
