The study of the conceptual field of the words with the archisemepeasant's log house, dwelling in various dialects gives an idea of the originality of the people's views on the world, the value system of rural dwellers, allows to trace the specific attributes of the cultural-historical development of Russian ethnicity, to represent the dialectal picture of the world in its territorial diversity. The aim of this work is to make the analysis focusing on the ethnolinguistic aspect of the semantic space of the word "dwelling" drawn on the lexis and phraseology of the Russian dialects in the Republic of Mordovia. The scientific novelty is determined by the lack of an analytical description of the ethnic experience presented by the semantic space of the word "dwelling" in the Russian dialects of the Republic of Mordovia, of the specifics of naming fragments of reality, attributable to the national-cultural originality of the language situation in the context of bilingualism. The study is carried out on the basis of the Dictionary of Russian dialects on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia which contains 647 lexical and phraseological units of the semantic field under consideration. In the course of study the following methods were used: descriptive, analytical, component, seme-onomasiological, as well as linguistic and cultural method of interpretation. The results of the study revealed unique information about the life and household activities of the Russian population in the Republic of Mordovia; the paper provides examples attesting to the fact that the purpose of the peasant's log house was not only for permanent living, but also for other purposes (household, ritual, etc.). The conceptual field of the word peasant's log house, dwelling in the studied dialects is structured by a number of microfields, which are characterised by semantic diversity: 1. Characterisation of a dwelling by the attribute "new - old". 2. Characterisation of dwelling by size. 3. Characterisation of dwelling by building material. 4. Reflection of the gradual construction of a dwelling (laying the foundation, flooring, erecting the walls, making a ceiling, roofing, laying out). 5. Layout of a peasant's house. 6. Characterisation of the exterior of a dwelling. 7. Names of a dwelling that characterise everyday household activities. The Russian dialects in the Republic of Mordovia have a significant number of lexemes denoting the name of a house, stages of its construction, as well as various activities accompanying this process. Unlike the literary language, the dialects are characterised by a greater detail in different names that are not available in the standardised language. In addition, the paper presents numerous synonymic rows of lexemes and phraseological units to name rooms as well as items used when building a house. Therefore, information reflecting the process of construction and specific attributes of peasant's houses interior in a geographically confined society, gives the opportunity to store information about the ethnic specificity and traditional way of life of the Russian people on the territory of Mordovia, to trace changes occurring during the twentieth century.
