On the history of the movement of Tomsk Oblast student construction teams in the 1960s.
The present article discusses the plot of the social life of Tomsk in the late 1950s and early 1970s, connected with the emergence of the movement of student construction teams. The generalization of the experience of organizing student associations, which was accumulated in higher educational institutions of Russia, is now in demand in connection with the new mobilization of the intellectual and organizational potential of youth to solve the country's tasks of modernization. Despite the fact that in Tomsk student teams appeared among the first in the USSR, their history has been studied extremely poorly. Except the collection of documents and memoirs, there is practically no information about it. The aim of the article is to draw public attention to the history of student construction teams in Tomsk. The author notes that the participation of students and pupils in agricultural work was common practice in Soviet times. This voluntary and forced labor eventually led to the emergence of a powerful youth movement - student teams. At first, they developed virgin lands, later they took part in construction works. In the article, the author dwells on some pages of the early history of the student construction teams of Tomsk, when the movement was just beginning. Since 1956, student teams for virgin lands development appeared, then construction teams, detachments of the summer physics and mathematics school and other associations were organized. In the 1960s, the student movement turned into a mass movement. Heads of Tomsk universities paid considerable attention to its development. The author demonstrates this fact on the example of the position of A.I. Danilov, the rector of Tomsk State University. The leaders of the Komsomol organizations of the region also saw the nonprofessional student movement as a powerful tool of labor and ideological-patriotic education of the youth and headed it. Party and economic leaders hastened to take advantage of the labor resources of the student movement. Student construction teams were reorganized in a special institution, which dealt not so much with labor but with the political education of students. The author proves this with the content of Protocol 32 of the meeting of the Tomsk Bureau of the Regional Committee of the CPSU in 1969. In this protocol "On increasing the role of construction teams in the labor and political education of students", student teams of Tomsk Oblast were called a "tool for labor and political education of student youth". The number of students wishing to participate in the labor shift increased from several hundred enthusiasts in the late 1950s up to 7.5 thousand people. The author comes to a conclusion that student teams in Tomsk in the 1960s developed from the establishment of first associations during general labor activities to the public recognition of their significance as a means of utilizing the labor and organizational potential of the youth, an indispensable means of political education of students. The movement of student construction teams has acquired a massive scale, it has become a tradition of the new generation of students.
