Epistemological Fields and New Narratives
The present research mainly focuses on the issue of intersemiotic translation, which is related to the separation of semiotic systems due to their varying media. Analyzing the problem of translation in the broad sense of the word, diverse functions of translation are observed. For instance, C. Vassalo in the paper "What's so "Proper" about Translation? Or Interlingual Translation and Interpretative Semiotics" devoted to genuine understanding of the translation concept claims that the given problem is confined to an argumentative dissociation between interpretation and translation that do not always have a synonymic meaning. The functions of text translation are always known to be diverse. The main goal of translation is limited to a possibility of comprehension for the reader. However, the issue is that the reader belongs to a different culture and often to a different era, so that the possibility of comprehension itself appears to be a problem. The reader either has to return into the past period of text creation, or the latter is to be drawn closer to the reader through interpretation. Thus, text translation from one language into another could be both modernization of the text and its archaization. In fact, the generative process of translation options is contingent on text synchronization; the ideological context is also considered one of the important factors affecting text interpretation. In this paper, the following methods were used: cultural-typological analysis and discourse analysis. The authors conclude that new narratives arise as a result of interaction with the previous cultural tradition related to the initial text and the changed circumstances which, in their turn, are reflected in the secondary text concepts; this research identifies problems causing the necessity of either modernization or archaization of translation, clarification of factors facilitating synchronization of text translation with current cultural and historic discourse, identification of ways to relate the source text to its variants; this research shows how to determine the possible ways to constitute epistemological fields in consequence of interconnection of the source text and its possible variations with a new cultural and historic environment.
