Self-Assessment of Physical Health by Students of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University
The ongoing socio-economic changes, the reduction of demographic potential, the deployment of the fourth industrial revolution and the processes of new industrialization suggest the formation of a person of a new time, whose prior qualities are education, competence, plasticity. In this regard, one of the urgent practical tasks of modern educational institutions is to create a comfortable, healthy educational environment for students through the introduction of scientific and effective technologies that contribute to the adaptation and creation of pedagogical conditions for self-development and creative realization of the individual. The aim of the study was to study the self-assessment of physical health of students of higher education institutions of Gomel (Belarus) on the basis of sociological research using the method of questioning. The study involved 1047 first- to five-year students of the main and preparatory departments (males and females) of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University"(Republic of Belarus). It is revealed that 58.5% of the respondents assess their physical health status in the current year as satisfactory, 67.6% of the respondents believe that it has not changed compared to the previous year. 68.5% of respondents believe physical activity is moderate, while it has been found that with years of studying the motor activity of the respondents decreases. 55.6% of the respondents indicated the presence of fatigue from time to time during any physical activity. 54.5% of the respondents are dissatisfied with sleep, 20.2% of them experience constant lack of sleep; 52.9% of the respondents are not engaged in tempering procedures. The level of the respondents' interest in health information and ways to improve it is extremely low - less than 40%. Thus, the analysis of the study indicates the need to make informed management decisions on the correction of the educational process for physical culture and sports activities in the university. The results of the study demonstrate the lack of students' interest in their own health and in healthy lifestyle. At the same time, classes in various sports, keeping fit are not common ways to maintain health among students. Real help in solving the above problems can be provided by the creation of a targeted program, which can be considered as part of the overall system of the educational process at the university, that would aim at improving students' health and forming a healthy lifestyle. The author considers it expedient to strengthen the individual orientation of the impact on students by separate elements of motor activity and, first of all, cyclic sports (walking, running, skiing, swimming, orienteering, etc.).
