Research Activities in the Training of Physical Education Teachers

In the research, the problem of the formation of research competences of future teachers is considered. The modern practice of organizations of general education and commissioning of social services make pedagogical educational institutions change the system of teachers' training. In the article, a theoretical proof of the value of research in the professional activities of future physical education teachers. By means of the analysis of documents and literature as well as a poll of 85 first-year students and eight teachers of profile disciplines, the author collected opinions on the inclusion of research activities in the educational process. The research has shown that the modern physical education teacher needs to have research competences to be successful in the profession. The author revealed important prerequisites of a successful formation of research competences in future physical education teachers: a positive attitude of first-year students to research work, awareness of its high social importance and value for personal growth. Along with it, most of the students fear being engaged in research for they consider this process difficult and labor-consuming, bringing only long-term achievements. It is an obstacle to the formation of research competences in future teachers. On the example of Tomsk State Pedagogical University, it has been proved that it is expedient to include elements of research activities in the educational process of students of the first courses in the form of tasks such as statement of a problem, study of theory, selection and study of methods of research, collection and analysis of one's own material, formulation of conclusions. The author has established that the modern physical education teacher organizes research and engages students in science. Results of the research demonstrate that that the interviewed teachers view research activities as a component of their profession. It leads to the fact that these teachers of theoretical profile subjects include research tasks for the formation of research competences in their curricula. In the research, methods and examples of tasks were described. The interviewed teachers and students consider them the most effective for research competence formation. However, the results of the research show that it needs further elaboration and scientific and methodological support.
