The 29th Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk: Features and Results
The aim of this study is a comprehensive analysis of the features and the results of the students' performance at the 29th Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk: sports facilities, organizational and competitive indicators, competition results, summary of the Russian athletes' performance. The following research methods have been used: study and systematization of the source base, analytical methods (comparison, contrast and others), analysis methods (induction, deduction). The results of this study have a wide theoretical application in the teaching of physical education and sports. Theoretical materials can be used as a supplement to the courses on the history of sports in educational institutions. The source base has been analyzed and systematized in Table 1; it includes data on the main infrastructure facilities of the World Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk and their main characteristics: name, type of training, capacity, kind of sports in which competitions took place during the event and which were included in the components of the cultural program. As a result of the collection, study, quantitative and qualitative analysis and systematization of the statistical data, Table 2 has been made, which presents the program of the 29th Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, including names and number of sports and sets of awards. The most competitive were ski racing competitions (11), freestyle (11) and snowboarding (10). More than 10% of the Universiade sports program consisted of mixed competitions. The peculiarity of the Universiade was that the male and female programs were equal in number, with almost forty five percent of the total number of awards each. The most representative teams were the national teams of Russia (296), Kazakhstan (95), Canada (91), Finland (89), China (83) and Sweden (76). The Russian national team ranked first in the unofficial team event, winning the record number of 112 medals: 41 gold, 39 silver and 32 bronze. Russian students managed to win awards in all eleven sports. The second were the athletes of the Republic of Korea in terms of the number of the awards, the athletes from Japan ranked third. During the preparation and holding of the Winter Universiade 2019, an extensive cultural program was implemented for the exploration of the unique Russian culture and art, which included exhibitions, festivals and competitions, concerts and performances, outdoor activities.
