Hybrid Globalization: Ideas and Concepts

The aim of this article is to present an analysis of the contemporary type of globalization - hybrid globalization. The analysis of hybrid globalization is based on the following methods: comparative studies, globalization studies, issues on hybridization. At the core of the modern globalization process, one could find a set of social, cultural, political processes transforming the world community into global social, economic, political, cultural interconnections, interdependencies, flows. These processes create a mixture of social, cultural, political forms, styles, structures, which have been described and analyzed by theorists of globalization (e.g., M. Seger, L. Maracz, etc.) as instances of hybridization. In order to investigate hybrid globalization, the authors of the article discuss cultural, political and social features of the heterogeneous global world order. The authors start argumentation by discussing the specifics of hybrid globalization in the context of the world cultural diversity. On the basis of the authors' analysis of hybrid globalization, several key problems of the hybrid globalization theory are scientifically grounded. Hard cases of hybrid globalization are discussed in the context of philosophy. Normative issues of multiculturalism, based on the works of J. Rawls, that influence the theory of hybrid globalization are specified. Rawls' arguments about the nature of reason, equality, justice, pluralism might reconceptualize the hybridization process in the contemporary world community. The authors find another point in understanding hybrid globalization in W. Kymlicka's notion of liberal culturalism concensus, which points out the mixing structures of the contemporary heterogeneous global world order. An important idea is also connected with the analysis of hybrid globalization in the context of Post-Marxist issues, which argue that ethnic identities are not pure or static constructions but change in new circumstances or by sharing the social space with other heritages or influence. "Blackness", for example, is a syncretic identity for it has been influenced by dominant European white cultural forms. This lack of pure identities means that minority groups are not homogeneous constructions. And this provides a strong argument for heterogeneous globalization (instead of homogeneous one). Further argument is connected with the diversity of the contemporary political life and political positions. This process leads to the formation of democratic federalism and hybrid globalization. Another point is connected with contemporary discussions on human rights in the context of cultural values, identities, the democratic theory. The modern globalization process leads to a collapse of Eurocentrism. Human rights are connected with any culture, so multicultural human rights provide for the emergence of hybrid globalization. In the conclusion, the authors summarize the results and come to the key point that the existing type of universalistic, homogeneous globalization is replaced by the new type of hybrid globalization.
