Expressive-Stylistic and Rhetorical Features of Sports Reportage as a Media Genre

The article analyses the discourse of television sports reporting as a kind of spontaneous public speech. An attempt was made to distinguish between live and sports reporting. The objectives of the study are the description of the specificity of the language personality of a hockey matches sportscaster, the peculiarities of its verbal behaviour on the air, a formal and pragmastylistic analysis of his speech. The aim of the study is to determine the communicative type of discursive language personality of Sergey Kuritsyn, a TV presenter of the First Yaroslavl channel, by the used stylistic techniques and means of artistic expression. The main emphasis in the work is made on the expressive-stylistic and rhetorical means in the speech of a regional TV journalist, determining their role in the sports discursive space. Special attention is paid to the expressive possibilities of intonation and sound means of his voice, which highlight emotionally acute moments of the situation and create the effect of presence. As the study showed, a conscious and skillful use of precedent texts, tropes, figures of speech and other means of expression is significant for the speech behaviour of a TV presenter. In the analysed TV reports, the sports journalist Kuritsyn tends to use an aggressive manner and to present information emotionally. A characteristic feature of the speech behaviour of the regional commentator is the use of expressive colloquial vocabulary and phraseology, which he uses to evaluate the actions of athletes, coaches, judges, the actual sports event and the facts forming it. The most expressive method of using the stylistic means of the language in the studied journalist's speech is the collision of elements of different styles in one statement. It reaches its maximum with a contrasting combination of lofty bookish expressions with colloquial or vernacular words. In the article, the discourse of the language personality of the sports journalist Sergey Kuritsyn has been analysed. The texts of TV broadcasts of hockey matches show that the language personality of the regional TV presenter is a combination of the communicative dominant of the commentator as an actor and of the communicative traits of the commentator as a fan and as an ironic person.
