The Image of Alexander Adrianov as a Journalist and Intellectual Lea der in Memoirs of Contemporaries

The article analyzes the image of Alexander Adrianov as a journalist and intellectual leader in the memoirs of his contemporaries. Adrianov was a well-known journalist, editor of Sibirskaya gazeta and Sibirskaya zhizn' periodiclas, scientist, archaeologist, ethnographer. In the works devoted to Adrianov's personality, historians focused on his political, social, scientific activities; they also considered his cooperation with Siberian periodicals. The story of Adrianov as an intellectual leader of regional periodicals of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries still needs to be studied. The source basis of the article includes ego-documents of journalists, Adrianov's colleagues, significant "others" who directly interacted with him. In the study, the author focused on identifying Adrianov's characteristics in the context of leadership. For the journalist, the first priority was the presence of a literary talent. Having analyzed sources of a personal origin of colleagues about Adrianov, the author comes to the conclusion that his professional skills were evaluated differently. Yet Adrianov was able to climb the career ladder of a journalist: from the head of a department to the editor and publisher, which indicates his understanding of the newspaper business, literary talent, as well as the ability to organize collective work in publishing. The establishment of Sibirskiy vestnik, which became a competitor for Sibirskaya gazeta, left a special imprint on Adrianov's image. This circumstance affected Adrianov's perception by his colleagues, and also imposed some responsibility on him as an editor. Compliance with journalistic ethics by press actors testified to the recognition and acceptance of the "professional rules" of the community of the time. Adrianov took responsibility for the consequences of the publication of his own texts on the pages of Siberian periodicals of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries. As the editor of Sibirskaya gazeta, he acted as a link between employees and readers. Uniting his colleagues around him, he directed the work of the periodical in one direction. In relations with the authorities-governors, censors-Adrianov always defended the interests of the periodical. He has a straightforward personality, who, as a journalist and head of the local press, was able to preserve the periodical during the "hard times". Recognition of colleagues in the professional community played an important role for press actors. Adrianov was often invited to various anniversaries, memorable dates, which was a way of entering the journalistic world. The author comes to the conclusion that Adrianov was a moral and intellectual leader for journalists.
