Fitness Aerobics as a Means of Developing Primary Schoolchildren's Physical Skills

The study aims to find ways of preserving and strengthening children's health, as well as prepare them for passing the physical training standard test. Theoretically, this is the question of motivating as many children as possible to improve their health through physical exercises. In practical terms, this is the idea of developing such qualities as endurance, speed, strength, and agility with the perspective of solving the state task of preparing the population to pass the physical training standard test. The object of the study is the training of the main groups of primary schoolchildren. To reach the aim, the authors used the following methods: literature analysis, tests of the physical skill level, pedagogical experiment, method of mathematical statistics. An experiment was conducted in order to test the effectiveness of using sets of aerobic exercises for developing physical skills. The main prospect of the experiment was to solve the state problem of preparing the population for passing GTO (Ready for Labour and Defence, a physical training standard) tests. Two groups of primary school children, control and experimental, passed control tests before and after the experiment. During the lessons in the experimental group, non-stop 45-minute aerobic exercises were used. The exercises included basic steps of classical aerobics with a movement cycle of no more than 4 counts (march, run, step tap, step touch, lunge, mambo, open step, lift step) and hand movements and exercises for motor abilities development, namely, coordination, strength (exercises for various muscle groups with a change of quantity and intensity), flexibility (active and passive), general physical endurance (long dynamic exercises up to 45 min). The authors analyzed the results and made the following conclusions: tests for the development of abdominal, hand, shoulder, leg, and back muscles, as well as the coordination and flexibility test showed a significant difference between the experimental and control group results after the pedagogical experiment. The usage of fitness aerobics complexes contributes to the effective development of physical skills. Based on the research, the authors recommend introducing musical and rhythmic education in the primary school, attracting children to dance classes and sports sections of gymnastics and athletic aerobics in order to develop not only flexibility, strength, and other physical skills for passing GTO tests, but also plasticity, the grace of movement with the music. Therefore, it is vital to pay more attention to the development of aerobics for children, not only in sports clubs, but also in physical education classes at schools.
