Based on the analysis of social, scientific methodological and educational aspects of recovery physical training, the author justifies the current interest in the elaboration of a methodology for the application of recovery exercises in the system of health-improving physical training for men aged 65 to 69. The aim of the article is to justify, elaborate and test in a pedagogical experiment the efficiency of such a methodology, and adopt the elaborated methodology into recovery and health-improving disciplines. The experimental work was carried out in the recreation center Tomsk Club in Tomsk during eight month-long cycles from April to November 2019. Men aged 65 to 69 took part in the experiment. The methods of the research were: the analysis of the author's own research and the works of other researchers; training observation; testing of physical qualities; evaluation of physical efficiency with the Ruffier test; evaluation of motivational incentives; pedagogical experiment; statistical methods. A methodology of recovery physical, predominantly strength, training sessions was elaborated to achieve the aim of the research. The methodology includes such elements as types and orientation of physical exercises; training load parameters; the place of physical exercises in the training sessions; methods for developing physical qualities. The methodology takes into account the physiological and pedagogical effects of recovery exercises, the positive and negative impacts of strength and strength endurance exercises, the ageing processes of elderly men, the principles of recovery exercise application. The elaborated methodology was integrated into the system of recovery training sessions. The pedagogical experiment proved the effectiveness of the methodology in men aged 65 to 69 by evaluations of strength, strength endurance, general physical efficiency and by a developed motivation for complex health-improving physical training, including mainly strength endurance exercises and the recovery means of the methodology.
