Architectural and Artistic Design: Basic Models of Development

The aim of the article is to substantiate the possibility of adapting the principles of a number of models of the dynamics of science to the formation of the concept of architectural design development. The material for the philosophical and methodological research in this work is a variety of architectural phenomena, methodological paradigms of a number of leading philosophers and architects of the past and present. The conclusion about the possibility of adapting the models, the logic of scientific knowledge development to the description of the dynamics of architectural and artistic design is based on the methodology of externalism, comparative analysis (it shows the relative similarity of social and humanitarian knowledge and architectural design), and discourses of methodology of science and methodology of architectural design. The research shows that the establishment of the modern form of a cyclical model of development of culture with its provisions on equality, openness and interaction of cultures in today's socio-humanitarian knowledge becomes the methodological basis for the conceptualization of existence of architectural and artistic design, and architecture as a multitude of open interacting architectural paradigms. The correlation of architectural design and socio-humanitarian knowledge allows perceiving the principle of coexistence of architectural paradigms as relevant to the realities of the history of architecture. This principle is characteristic of the conceptualization of the dynamics of science by Imre Lakatos, since his model is based on the experience of the development of mathematics, which is based on the same principles as humanitarian knowledge. The principles of Paul Feyerabend's conception of development of science (the determining role of sociocultural and sociopsychological factors, e.g., the thirst for asserting one's own creative "Self"; proliferation) are most relevant to the realities of the modern existence and development of architecture. The concept-forming principle in modeling the dynamics of architectural and artistic design is the understanding of architecture as a system of signs, as a discourse that interacts with other discourses set by the sociocultural context. Thus, a model of the dynamics of architectural and artistic design is built. According to this model, the development of architectural and artistic design is the formation, change and coexistence of architectural paradigms and discourses, open to interaction, separated or neighboring in the cultural and historical space and time.
