Implementation of Multicultural Foreign Language Education: A Heuristic Resource of Approaches in Teaching Law Students
The article presents the genesis of the problem of multiculturalism in foreign pedagogy. The extrapolation of the problem is considered in relation to the methodology of teaching foreign languages in non-linguistic universities in Russia. The content of the concepts “multicultural teaching of a foreign language to students of a non-linguistic university”, “polycultural teaching of law students” is described. The heuristic resource of approaches to intercultural education and education of youth by means of a foreign language is considered. Strategies and tactics of multicultural teaching of a foreign language are indicated. The authors see the heuristic resource of the considered foreign pedagogy approaches in the theoretical substantiation of the polycultural training of future lawyers of the Russian Federation and in the development of a pedagogical idea that polycultural education of law students is possible by means of a foreign language, using foreign language teaching methodologies designed according to the provisions of polyculturalism and preparing students for life in a polylingual-ethnocultural society. The polycultural training is implemented in forming a polycultural personality of a lawyer that has a foreign language competency; professional knowledge; the ability to study in a foreign language; the ability to mutually enrich and interact with representatives of different nationalities, religions and cultures, while maintaining one's own ethnic, social, regional and state identification and cultural identity; the ability to harmoniously combine ethnocultural, regional, civic forms of identity; respect for other cultural identities; and established skills of intercultural interaction. Researchers state that a foreign language can be polyculturally taught in a multinational university through the integration of cultural traditions of multi-ethnic students and native speakers of the studied language into the content and teaching methods based on the recognition by students of a multicultural image of the world as a resource for the formation of an individual and society. The effectiveness of the formation of such a personality (a lawyer aware of their belonging to the Russian civic nation without prejudice to the development of their national and cultural identity) is determined by the level of students' knowledge about the culture of Russia, world culture, and the evolution of culture in the dynamics of population; by the favorable development of qualities associated with polyculturalism; by conditions for students' successful activities in a multi-ethnic academic and professional environment; by the introduction of polycultural didactic units into the educational materials of the foreign language disciplines.
