Ecuador's role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

The role of Ecuador in the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has not been studied in Russian science to date, and little attention has been paid to this topic in foreign research. This article is primarily aimed to show the feasibility of filling the “blank spot” in the subject under consideration. The aim of this article is to analyze the position of Ecuadorian foreign policy on the Israeli-Palestinian confrontation based on a wide range of sources and literature. The author analyzes public statements by top officials of Ecuador, UN documents on Arab-Israeli issues (speeches on the UN General Assembly and UN Security Council resolutions), examines the positions of the warring parties and their attitude to the role of Ecuador as an involved state, albeit indirectly, in the peaceful resolution of the conflict. In this article, the author attempts to analyze in more detail and present the current role of Latin American states in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the example of the official position of Ecuador, as one of the states of the Andean region that is gradually gaining influence. For the time period in this article, the stage from the moment of the emergence of Israel to the present day is taken, thereby considering more than half a century of the history of the Arab-Israeli confrontation, which includes numerous wars, truces and the signing of peace treaties between the warring parties. The position of Latin America, as a region that is represented in the Non-Aligned Movement, on the example of its individual members, seems interesting to the author in studying the above-mentioned problem.
