Methodology for studying images of the future and the place in it of sociolinguistic analysis of digital content
The authors of the article aim to present existing methodological approaches to the study of images of the future, to analyze their connection with the research objectives and the materials used. The authors introduce readers to the developed and tested methodology of a sociolinguistic analysis of information flows on the Internet, thematically oriented to the image of the future. The article presents the results of a study conducted in November, 2023, and January, 2024. The database included 50,036,592 tokens. The results of the study revealed both positive and negative semantic accents, which turned out to be the most significant for the participants in the discussions. The research strategy aimed at fixing the "information waves" and the reaction to them allows us to identify the main content orientations of the idea of the future. In addition, this strategy makes possible to reveal the actors of these ideas, on the one hand, and to track their reaction to the proposed models of the future, on the other hand. Thus, according to the authors, this method makes it possible to get closer to the solution of the issue of the principles of the emergence of images of the future as phenomena of public consciousness. The presented methods have advantages such as the possibility of significantly reducing the number of analysis units by isolating information waves, as well as the ability to use large language models, which allow analyzing an extremely large volume of messages. This makes it possible to use these methods both separately and in combination for research of the information network space in various thematic areas. The article shows that studying network content can yield interesting results when analyzing collective ideas about the future. The authors declare no conflicts of interests.
