Toward the anthropology of individualism: problems of ethics and moral self in (post)modern societies
Article is devoted to actual issues and crisis of individualism in its form of ethical doctrineand moral practice in (post)modern western societies. Author approaches critique addressed to individualism and its historical circumstancesfrom the point of view of contemporary cultural and social theory. Crisis of postmodern (hyper)individualism and its negativesocial impact is considered in the context of theoretical postmodernism (Z. Bauman) and communitarian theory (A. Etzioni). Analysisshows importance of anthropological considerations (human subjectivity as essentially intersubjective) for approaching cultural problemsof individualism and looking for ways to solve them in dynamic societies of late modernity.
