«Marriage» of N.V. Gogol and the development of the Russian comedy of I920's

The article points out the problem of reception of the Gogol's dramatic heritage in the theatre of the 1920's. The stage history of«Marriage», dramatical piece little investigated in the critique, is considered. This play had a material effect on the development of theRussian comedy in the post-revolutionary period In the works of Krdman, Majakovskij, Zamiatin the motive of marriage, which has asymbolical meaning, is the basis of the dramatic subject's construction It permits to reveal absurd and chaos of the new reality, uncoverthe tragedy of the man's fate. The dialogue of the dramatists with the great satirist of the l9th century becomes the most important elementof the literary process of the 1920's.
