«Mednyi Vsadnik» by A S. Pushkin and the series of ballads of the 1830th by V.A. Zhukovsky.

Using comparative analysis of the poem «Mednyi Vsadnik» by A. S. Pushkin and the 1831-1833 series of ballads byV. A. Zhukovsky, the author of this article shows the profound conformity between two poets in their moral, philosophic and artisticpursuits. The basis of the ballad series and the poem to resemble each other was the way both Pushkin and Zhukovsky set the problemof self-determination of a person, facing inevitable circumstances. The conformity of the ballads and «Mednyi Vsadnik» comes to lightin the tension of dramatic collision between social requirements and personal pursuits along with the search for their harmonious combinationas a moral and social basis for historical development. The subject of special analysis is the poetics of through symbolic imagesof water and horse.
