The article is about learner centered approach in education and teaching foreign languages Learner's needs should be the focal point in the learning process. Nowadays a teacher is viewed more as a facilitator of the learning process than a «knowledge transmitter». The main task of a teacher consists in creating opportunities for successfuland frustration - free learning, taking into consideration different learning styles, abilities and needs of students. Success hasalways to do with one's self - esteem which is considerably affectcd by teachers' evaluation. That is why we should look for ways toobjective evaluation, thus maximizing students' potential and motivation to leam Introducing the student's portfolio can be viewed asone of the ways to provide maximal objective evaluation and systematic feedback on the part of the teachei, as well as the student's selfevaluation.Besides, the portfolio documents the student's learning by selecting samples of his/her work It also helps to systematize thestudent's learning of the target language in the four basic areas reading, speaking, listening, writing.
