Russian critique on the peculiarities of E. Bulwer-Lytton's Newgate novels (the 1830-1860's)
The article analyses the Russian critique's review of E. Bulwer-Lytton's Newgate novels, on the basis of which the causes for interest in the given genre modification in Russia of the first half of the XIX century have been revealed. The reception analysis of the Newgate novel allows for specification of both peculiarities of the given genre transformation in the course of the English literature and its interconnection with other novel varieties in the Russian literature.
