The policy ofthe United States in connection with transformation ofthe Baghdad Pact and creation ofthe CENTO(1958-1960)
The aspiration to create military pacts around the Soviet Union was one of the features of the US foreign policy after the Second World War. The Baghdad pact, which was renamed into the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO) in 1959, was the weakest organisation among the pacts built up by the U.S. The author of the article analyses the reasons of the weakness of the pact and the US attitude towards it.
